QUOTE (J.R.R. Tolkien) – Sept 2

September 2, 2014

“We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming ‘sub-creator’ and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic ‘progress’ leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil.”
~ J.R.R. Tolkien

In honor of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, best known as the author of the classic works The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, who died on this day in 1973.

  1. This is a needed message very eloquently enunciated by one of my favorite authors of all time. His determination to spread godly truth through story writing is reflected in his largely allegorical Lord of the Rings trilogy, a series that teaches about courage, loyalty, perseverance, and most importantly the serious warfare between good and evil. Reading his books left me with the realization that young or old, big or small, each of us is both equipped and responsible for defending ourselves from the attacks of the Enemy – attacks that can strike at any moment and we must be utterly prepared for.

Thank you for sharing this enlightening quote from Tolkien. Hopefully other writers with the same cause will be encouraged on their mission. God bless.
